The company was formed in New Haven, CT in 2015 and provides workforce development training, sustainability consulting, program design and management, business development, and marketing & outreach services to public, private, and nonprofit entities related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, weatherization, building performance and sustainability management. EFG was developed by a group of graduate students with a shared interest in building a more sustainable future. Increasingly we see that clients are looking for innovative, bespoke solutions for their businesses that consider the human and environmental impact of their operations. Federal policies are increasingly supporting the development of these solutions. Our planet has never had so many inhabitants, communities are connected like never before and technology is driving change and threatening traditional industries. There is a constant state of flux, from regulatory policy to weather events. To that end, we observed a need for EFG to help organizations navigate societal complexities and proactively manage risk.

Program Overview: Construction related industries are facing a mass retirement over the next five years. Simultaneously, the country has committed to improving our infrastructure and buildings in an effort to reduce resource consumption and carbon emissions and their impact on climate change. To accomplish these goals, the construction industry needs to increase its workforce as well as increase the knowledge of sustainable building standards to put into practice. Presently, there is a labor shortage and in order to accomplish our building performance goals we will need to educate, train and recruit the next generation workers. Stakeholders are turning their focus to the weatherization workforce training partnerships to attract participants and promote these good paying high performance construction jobs. EFG is a consulting group which conducts research for the design and implementation of workforce development training programs for sustainability related careers. In many cases, EFG is also the implementer and manager for these programs. We also conduct a market analysis of such programs.

Job Description: EFG is looking for a Technical Trade Instructor to join the team as we enter our next phase of growth with these programs. This person will provide educational teaching services, outreach, client project support, and other services as agreed upon. The purpose of this collaboration is to increase the EFG educational programming for weatherization and building performance services for clients, increase community awareness, and to increase workforce development partnerships. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and effective professional with a passion for the job and for the mission of EFG. They will be a skilled instructor with technical knowledge of weatherization industry trends, workforce strengthening programs, and climate resilience science. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Meeting with Principal on trainings Preparation for workshop training Instruction of courses (English required, Spanish preferred). Example topics include: Duct Blast - to test and document the airtightness of forced air duct systems Blower Door - to identify where heat is being lost and discuss energy-saving measures. Heat Pumps and HE Water Heater - to introduce heat pump technology vs traditional hot water heaters and their associated energy conservation. Lighting Design and Energy Codes - to introduce various lighting technologies (lumens), lighting design, and state and federal energy codes. Building Principal Sciences, Healthy Housing Principles courses Introduction to home energy performance, sustainability, eesmarts, energy efficiency, decarbonization Review & Feedback of training materials Supporting client services and projects Tracking work and reporting hours Attending conferences or meetings with clients Support of business development projects Travel in Connecticut and/or Massachusetts Other duties as assigned Desired skills and experience: Excellent presentation and speaking skills for teaching high school aged students inside traditional and technical high school classroom settings and occasionally in the field. Uses effective communication approaches that include proactively keeping others informed, appropriately expressing ideas and thoughts verbally and in written form, and timelines.
Knowledge of energy, conservation, or environmental topics is preferred. Knowledge of climate resilience efforts in the US and weatherization industry standards Comfort working in MS Office software and knowledge of Google classrooms or other cloud-based collaboration tools. Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers. May use scientific instruments and trade-related equipment in student presentations or technical training. Collaborative, team-oriented yet possess initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, ideally in environmental science or related subject matter. Master’s degree in related subject matter preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction trades including Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Architecture, Bioscience Technology, Environmental Technology (BET), Masonry, Plumbing & Heating Experience with trades instruction at the secondary level Experience setting up and operating a blower door and duct blaster Experience with weatherization, energy auditing, high performance building standards Experience developing and delivering energy efficiency training and programs Expert knowledge of industry standards for energy efficiency and renewable energies, home performance services, energy conservation and sustainability Ability to organize, develop and provide training in energy efficiency and weatherization Knowledge of proper preparation of in-home energy efficiency, comfort, durability, health, safety and Lead Safe practices Knowledge of Heat Pumps technologies Knowledge of energy efficiency and state and federal building/energy codes Preferred Qualifications: CT SDE Trade and Industrial Occupations (#098) Endorsement Six credits in professional education BPI Building Analyst certification (or equivalent) BPI Building Envelope certification GPRO Fundamentals of Building Green USGBC LEED- GA NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification
Experience or a background in providing instruction to students and adults is preferred. SDE Science or Vocational endorsements are desirable Experience in developing and delivering energy professional development Travel Requirements: Travel to participating Connecticut and/or Massachusetts schools is required. Must have reliable transportation and be able and willing to travel throughout MA (mileage provided).

Compensation: This role will be paid an hourly rate of $70-$80 for training instruction depending on qualifications and experience, and an hourly rate of $30.00 for other additional services including course preparation, review and material development. A maximum of 20 hours will be allotted per week as a contractor of Earth Forward Group. The subcontractors may request mileage reimbursement at the Standard US reimbursement rate.
