Job Description

Our mission is to accelerate the next generation of space users with scalable and sustainable ways to deliver the things they care about from Earth to Space, and from Space to everywhere else. We are the fastest-growing supplier of green propulsion systems for satellites in the world. Our turnkey systems manoeuvre satellites in space and deorbit them at the end of their lifetimes.

We are looking for a Project Management Team Lead Based in our Delft Office (The Netherlands) to spearhead the growth and success of our project management function with a global focus. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for building a best-in-class project management team, establishing a robust operational framework, and providing insightful leadership to ensure the successful delivery of our portfolio of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Global Team Leadership: Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of project managers, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment that thrives in a multinational setting.
  • Framework Architect: Design and implement a comprehensive project management framework encompassing methodologies, tools, and reporting processes that cater to a fast-growing business needs.
  • Portfolio Mastermind: Lead the development and execution of project management plans for our portfolio, ensuring successful delivery for international customers.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyze and report on portfolio health, highlighting key metrics, risks, and resource constraints across the portfolio of projects during management meetings.
  • Resource Champion: Proactively identify resource gaps and develop strategies to optimize resource allocation across projects, considering international team dynamics.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion best practices, identify opportunities for improvement and implement necessary changes with a global perspective.
  • Communication Hub: Foster open communication within the Project Management team and facilitate collaboration between other departments, navigating cultural differences and time zones effectively.
  • Career Architect: Be a dedicated mentor, guiding your team's career growth and development through training, coaching, and feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
    (Master's degree a plus)
  • Experience with commercial space projects and/or programs
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of leading and mentoring project managers in an international environment
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) and best practices, with a focus on international project considerations.
  • Experience in implementing and optimising project management frameworks for global teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a talent for navigating cultural nuances
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a culture of inclusion and mutual respect
  • Experience using project management software tools (e.g., Wrike, MS Project, Jira, Asana) is a plus

These skills and experience would be nice to have:

  • Experience in building and managing an agile team
  • Experience with space propulsion projects and technologies
  • Experience with various contract types – firm fixed price, cost-plus, etc.
  • Demonstrated achievements in planning, directing, and implementing complex projects on time, within budget and with desired functionality
  • Ability to be broadly focused, while paying attention to detail and concurrently managing multiple efforts
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, including staff, business stakeholders, and all levels of management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including those necessary for an executive audience.
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and influential skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, changing, and ambiguous environments.
  • Proven experience with a project management methodology

About Dawn Aerospace

Dawn Aerospace is a space transportation company with a purpose.
Our mission is to enable the next generation of space users by providing more sustainable and scalable ways to access and move around in space. We believe this access, in the form of a transportation network, will fundamentally change what’s possible from space. We currently focus on two areas of space transportation:

- In-space propulsion
We're a leading supplier of turnkey green propulsion systems for various classes of satellites. Our system utilise safe, accessible propellants and we have over 50 of these propulsion units on 12 operational satellites already. A further 200 units are in production.

- Space launch
Our Mk-II Aurora spaceplane demonstrator has completed 50 successful flights and we recently completed the first campaign utilising rocket engines. Mk-II is unique in that it combines the performance of a rocket and the rapid reusability and economic model of an aircraft.

Our international teams are distributed across three locations: New Zealand, the Netherlands, and the USA.
