Job Description
Company Overview
Blue Energy’s mission is to unlock energy abundance, energy affordability, energy security, and turn-key decarbonization by developing the fastest path to deploying new nuclear MWs at scale. We are utilizing shipyard manufacturing supply chains and techniques from offshore oil and wind to reduce the cost of nuclear plants by over 60% and the manufacturing timeline to 24 months. Blue Energy is a platform technology that makes use of the latest NRC-approved reactors and is in negotiations with existing nuclear and industrial sites, enabling a much faster regulatory pathway to deploy our first unit. With our innovative centralized shipyard manufacturing approach, we can put nuclear power on a cost-reduction learning curve akin to wind, solar, and lithium-ion batteries.
Role Summary
We are seeking a talented Licensing Engineer to join our regulatory team and to bring our innovative nuclear power plant designs through the regulatory approval process. As a contributor in the Regulatory Affairs Office, you will play a critical role in Blue Energy’s mission by executing the regulatory strategy; collaborating with other departments; and learning the fundamentals of nuclear reactor licensing. Your work will support critical NRC engagements, spanning from topical report submissions to licensing applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Senior Licensing Engineers in executing Blue Energy’s licensing strategy to enable nuclear project development.
- With guidance from Senior Licensing Engineers:
- Develop written licensing products (e.g., detailed reports on specific technical subjects1 and responses to NRC’s questions). This work will become increasingly more independent as your skill set expands.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment between regulatory requirements and engineering designs, site selection, and plant construction timelines.
- Interface with the NRC and international regulatory bodies (e.g., IAEA, NEA) to address regulatory questions, provide data, and manage requests for additional information.
- Participate in workshops, regulatory meetings, audits, and inspections, representing Blue Energy’s interests to ensure smooth and timely licensing.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science (Physics, Chemistry, etc) or Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field).
Experience:
- Desire to learn NRC regulations, licensing processes, and safety standards.
- Demonstrated potential to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable tasks.
- Good communication (both verbal and written) and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work on a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Some experience with commercial or Navy nuclear power (various disciplines) OR
- Experience working on research reactors and/or advanced reactors OR
- Experience working in a field where safety is important (e.g., aerospace, chemical)
- Progress toward a Professional Engineering (PE) license (e.g., preparing for fundamentals of engineering exam)
We look forward to your application and helping foster an era of safe, clean, affordable, and abundant energy.
Blue Energy is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t perfectly align with every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might be the right candidate for this or other roles at Blue Energy now or in the future.
