Job Description

Battolyser Systems is looking to recruit a Junior Materials Scientist

You are part of the Materials group within the Research team. In addition to Materials, this multi-disciplinary team of research scientists and engineers is responsible for Multiphysics (CFD), Validation, Electrode development, Stack internals, component, single cell and stack testing for current and future Battolyser® designs. As member of the team, you will collaborate in a project-based manner within the broader research team, stack design team, Production Engineering, manufacturing and supply chain.

You will work in an ever-changing dynamic environment but can expect to be working on the following tasks in the first 12 months:

  • Expansion and maintenance of our materials database which contains relevant properties of current materials and potential alternatives.
  • Perform literature searches and laboratory experiments to inform the selection of type and grades of metal components used in Battolyser® products. Selected metals and metal coatings need to have the right composition/grade, chemical resistance, mechanical properties and must be low cost.
  • Develop material selection rationale of all metalic and metal coated components used in Battolyser® products
  • Specify material and testing requirements for especially metals and liaise with component suppliers on these requirements.
  • Assist with the design of test setups and test protocols (in-house or outsourced) for (accelerated) durability testing of metalic components and assemblies (mechanical strength, electrical contact, corrosion) to understand aging, fatigue, potential failure modes and opportunities for improvement and support product design.
  • Assist in selected/evaluating joining or connection methods of metal components.
  • Assist in defining requirements/research inputs for selected product improvements based on overall system/product targets.
  • Share data with cross-functional teams and facilitate discussions to guide the experimental plan.
  • Scout the market and keep track of developments in new or improved materials.
  • Contribute to Failure Mode and Effect Analysis of the Battolyser system & components.

We value autonomy and you will have lots of freedom, with that we expect you to take initiative and ownership of your role. You will work with an international team of fun and bright colleagues with professional backgrounds in various top companies and institutes, check us out at www.linkedin.com/company/battolysersystems/people.
