Job Description

350.org is looking for an Interim Product Specialist, ideally from 1 March through to 30 June 2024.

About 350.org

350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyse transformation around the world. The values that guide and drive our work are listed here.

350.org is an equal opportunity employer. 350.org strives to be an inclusive and collaborative group of people who bring a variety of approaches to the work we do. We’re committed to the principles of j ustice, and we try to build a safe workplace where everyone is treated fairly and enjoys working together. We value new perspectives, ideas of all sorts, and different ways of working. Diverse perspectives and experiences improve the way 350.org carries out our work – including what we decide to work on and how creatively/effectively we do that. We do our best to make staff positions accessible to all potential team members, regardless of race, national origin, ethnicity, age, disability, assigned gender, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation or identity, religion or creed, veteran status, marital or parental status, and genetic information. We also strive to include team members in communities most impacted by climate change or impacted by other kinds of environmental, social, and economic injustice.

About this role

The Interim Product Specialist sits within 350’s Product Team, whose mission is to steward and develop an innovative, effective technical toolset to support the work of 350.org and the movement.

This is a temporary cover position whilst a member of our team takes a well-earned sabbatical. The role-holder will be responsible for the success of campaigners using our advocacy and campaign toolset. They will offer technical support, coordinate our training programme and work with staff to help them meet their goals, have impact and build the movement.

The ideal candidate will be a great communicator who is committed to enabling the success of our campaigners and has a proven understanding of digital organising and campaigning. They will have an aptitude for problem-solving and navigating digital platform admin interfaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support our diverse, global staff to use our toolset to successfully launch digital campaigns. This will include:
  • Collaborating with campaigners planning actions to understand their needs and timelines, help them choose appropriate tools and strategies
  • Technical support: responding to questions about the capability of our tools, troubleshooting issues with page, email, integration or testing setup
  • Checking the setup is correct before campaigns or emails are launched
  • Capturing bug reports and feature requests in our tracker
  • Planning ahead for coordination across time zones
  • Supporting campaigners to plan and run A/B tests, review stats and evaluate learnings
  • Coordinate the platform training and onboarding programme for internal 350 staff. This includes reviewing requests, overseeing and communicating the training calendar, collaborating with training facilitators, and tracking participation.
  • Work with the wider product team in managing the team helpdesk and triaging bug reports and queries.
  • May participate in pilot projects, such as designing and testing messaging app programmes.
  • Maintain and update, as needed, the documentation and resources on Notion and Google drive.

Essential Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Experience using digital campaigning and advocacy platforms effectively, or supporting others to do so
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, including understanding campaigner needs
  • Detail-oriented and a proven ability to independently problem solve using documentation and resources available
  • Excellent organisation and coordination skills
  • Must embrace the principles of workplace justice, diversity and inclusion and apply them to day-to-day work
  • Aligned with 350.org’s mission to leverage people power to build a more sustainable and just future for all

Desirable Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Proficiency in one or more of the digital campaigning and organising platforms we use at 350.org: ActionKit, New/Mode, Salesforce, Wordpress, mobile messaging/broadcast SMS platforms and VWO A/B testing
  • Experience in quality assurance or proofing campaigns, emails or user experiences
  • A basic understanding of HTML/CSS (the ability to read/decipher simple code is more important than the ability to write it)
  • Experience analysing campaign performance data and/or familiarity with principles and best practice for A/B testing
  • Experience of digital campaigning or organising in a variety of locations, contexts and languages

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.

Availability and dates: Ideal start date ~1 March through to 30 June 2024, to allow for onboarding and handover. There is a small amount of flexibility with the dates, but availability for onboarding before mid-March is essential.

Environment: Remote. Candidates will provide their own equipment including computer, secure internet connection and workspace.

Location: Remote within the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Benin, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, United Kingdom or the United States (CA, CO, GA, MD, MA, ME, MT, NY, NC, PA, VT, VA,WI, NJ, CT, WA, or Washington, D.C. only).

Applicants must have the legal authorization to work for any employer in their country of residence. We are unable to sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Time commitment: Preferably full-time (350.org offers a 36hr working week). Applications for shorter working weeks will also be considered.

Salary: Tier 2.1 - click here to view the global annual salaries (applied pro rata).

Application Deadline: 21 January 2024

Please send your CV and instead of writing a traditional cover letter, attach your answers to these questions:

  1. Why are you applying to this role? (max. 150 words)
  2. Make a list of the "Required qualifications" that you meet and, for each, provide 2-3 sentences of explanation describing how you meet them. If you fail to meet any of the required qualifications, provide a paragraph of explanation for why you think your application should be considered anyway.
  3. Make a list of the "Desired (but not required) qualifications" that you meet and, for each, provide 2-3 sentences of explanation describing how you meet them.
  4. Are you available full-time 1 March - 30 June 2024 in one of the locations listed above?

After applications for this position have closed, we may reach out for a short conversation which we’ll use to get a better sense of whether we think you’re right for the role, and will give you a chance to ask questions too. If you then get shortlisted, the next step would be a panel interview and/or a skills test. We’ll let you know as soon as possible if you are through to the next stage.

Let us know if there’s any reasonable adjustments you’d like us to make in any or all of the stages of the hiring process in view of a disability or health issue.

If you have suggestions for us on how to do this better, we really value your input and strongly encourage you to write to us at [email protected] with the subject line ‘Hiring Feedback’.
