As an Intern in the Data Science & Optimization team, you'll tackle real-world challenges in energy market modeling and the optimization of distributed energy systems. This is your chance to work hands-on with advanced simulation tools, forecasting models, and algorithms that drive our Heartbeat Energy Management System—making a direct contribution to the energy transition.

• Collaborate on designing flexibility models for distributed energy resources
• Collaborate on developing and deploying optimization algorithms for energy market participation including day-ahead, intraday, and balancing services
• Support on identifying improvements on current optimization algorithms
• Extend and enhance our existing simulation framework
• Conduct comprehensive simulation studies and performance analysis
• Create dashboards in Looker to monitor the performance of the Energy Management
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to solve complex problems in the energy sector The successful candidate will have:
• You are currently pursuing or recently completed studies in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field
• You are familiar with core Optimization algorithms (LP, MILP) and mathematical modeling
• You applied your Optimization knowledge in projects either in industry or academia
• You have experience working with at least one of the optimization modeling frameworks such as Pyomo, AMPL, GAMS, or similar tools
• You have experience working in Python
• You enjoy problem-solving, analyzing data, and deriving insights
• You enjoy writing clean, maintainable, and reusable code that's easy to test
• You have a strong interest in the energy sector and sustainability
• You have a team-oriented mindset and value close collaboration with your teammates
• You have strong communication skills in English; German is a plus Preferred Qualifications, but not mandatory:
• You have experience working with SQL
• You have experience modeling energy systems
• Experience in working in agile environments
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker)
• Experience with data analysis libraries (e.g., pandas, numpy, scikit-learn)
• Knowledge of energy markets and renewable energy systems
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform
