What Kestrix makes

Google maps for heat loss. Using mass thermal image capture and AI to map where heat leaks in buildings and build retrofit plans.

Company Info

Kestrix is using mass image capture and AI to accelerate building retrofit. By using area-based mass thermal and visible image capture and extracting energy performance data from images with machine learning and computer vision, Kestrix constructs quantitative, visual 3D energy performance (heat loss) models of buildings, and retrofit plans. This reduces 2-3 hours of manual thermographic pre-work to seconds and unlocks streamlined planning and verification of retrofit schemes at the portfolio or city level.

Role of software at Kestrix

Engineers at Kestrix can be excited about working at Kestrix for several reasons:

  1. Cutting-edge technology: Kestrix utilizes computer vision and machine learning to classify building materials by emissivity, detect thermal anomalies, and construct real-world 3D heat loss models. This has never been done before – so software engineers will be at the forefront of developing and implementing state-of-the-art algorithms and techniques in these domains.
  2. Real-world impact: By focusing on thermal analysis and heat loss modeling, Kestrix directly addresses energy efficiency and sustainability challenges. Software engineers have the chance to contribute to creating a greener future by helping individuals and organizations reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Kestrix's Trajectory

Business growth: Kestrix anticipates raising a seed round Q1 2024, aiming for £1m+ ARR within 18 months.

Employee growth: Kestrix anticipates growing the team from 6 at the end of 2023 to ~30 within 18 months.

Kestrix's Climate Impact

By minimising the need for on-site surveys, unlocking private financing, and visually engaging stakeholders, Kestrix aims to accelerate retrofit from 2% of buildings annually to 4% of buildings annually. Assuming 1.8t reduction potential per home and an average retrofit acceleration of 25 years/home, Kestrix projects achieving 11Mt CO2e reduction (amortised) per year by year 12 of operating.
