Job Description
About us
At Transmutex, we aim at reinventing nuclear energy from the ground up. Our mission: build the world’s first accelerator-driven system to produce clean, safe, and scalable energy. . The innovative combination of particle accelerators and fuel, based on existing long-lived radioactive waste, will let us develop energy-producing system that will be intrinsically safe, will reduce the stockpile of long-lived waste, is resistant to proliferation, and will be cost competitive.
It’s bold, it’s challenging — and it requires brilliant minds to make it real.
That’s where you come in.
Job description
As our Beam Dynamics Physicist, you’ll shape the design and optimization of the accelerator beamline — ensuring stability, efficiency, and performance. You’ll dive into simulations, crunch the physics, and work closely with engineers to bring the beam from concept to operation.
Main responsibilities
· Develop and optimize beam optics for high-intensity proton accelerators from ion source to target location.
· Perform beam dynamics simulations (including space charge, nonlinear effects, halo formation).
· Define tolerances, error budgets, and beam quality requirements.
· Collaborate with magnet engineers, RF specialists, and mechanical teams to ensure coherent system design.
· Analyze experimental data and benchmark against simulations.
· Identify and solve beam-related challenges during commissioning and operation.
· Contribute creative ideas to push performance, safety, and innovation further.
· Participate and support machine learning projects with the goal to improve and facilitate beam operation of particle accelerator facilities.
Qualifications and professional achievements
· PhD in Physics, Accelerator Physics, or a closely related field.
· 2 to 5 years’ solid experience in beam dynamics modelling and accelerator design, particularly cyclotrons.
· Proficiency with simulation tools (MAD-X/BMAD, TraceWin, PyORBIT, IMPACT, OPAL, or similar).
· Strong understanding of collective effects, lattice design, and accelerator physics fundamentals.
· Practical experience with accelerator experiments or commissioning is a big plus.
· A problem-solving mindset: proactive, rigorous, and hands-on when needed.
· Experience with advanced diagnostic tools and AI-based data analysis for beam performance.
· Excellent communication skills in English (French and/or German is a plus).
Why Join Us
· Impact: Your physics directly enables a breakthrough in safe, clean energy.
· Ownership: From design to commissioning, you’ll have real influence on critical systems.
· Culture: Join a small, ambitious team where your ideas matter.
· Growth: Work at the frontier of accelerator physics and help shape a technology with world-changing potential.
If you’re excited about taking beam physics from the simulation room to a working accelerator — and want to see your work make a real impact — we’d love to meet you.
Terms And Conditions
· Start date: As soon as possible, ideally Q1 2026
· Location: Vernier, GE, Switzerland
· Contract: Full-time, permanent employment contract
· Package: We offer competitive remuneration and social security, accident/disability insurance and pension plans; one day per week work from home, as well as five weeks paid vacation.
Recruitment process:
One to two technical interview.s with the Hiring manager and other Transmutex team members; Interview with HR for retained candidates, final interview with Management for shortlisted candidates.
