About The Role

We currently have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for a R&D Technician. The selected candidate will join the Neutral Beams team to support operation and maintenance of a MW-level Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) system for plasma heating and current drive. This is a full-time and onsite position.

• Assemble complicated mechanical and electrical systems
• Participate in fixing the NB hardware
• Communicate with engineers and scientists to help with their projects
• Assembly of precision electromechanical/vacuum systems
• Interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams
• General machine shop equipment operation
• Operate and maintained UHV vacuum equipment
• Installation of high voltage components and systems
• Installation/operation and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Q&A, storage, and inventory control.
• Ability to use various mechanical and precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches, wrenches, allen keys, micrometers, and calipers
• Crane operation
• Forklift operation
• Scissor lift operation

About You

• 2 plus years of experience
• Working in an industrial environment such as, Machine shop, assembly (electronic or mechanical), R&D, laboratory, warehouse, automotive garage, oil rig, loading dock, construction, etc.
• Hand and power tools (Drill motors, Dremel tool, Screw/Nut-drivers, Allen key, Calipers, etc.)
• Operation of machine shop equipment (drill press, band saw, buffers, grinders, etc.)
• Basic electronic and electrical knowledge
• Intermediate or advanced mechanical assembly knowledge (small/large parts put together with precision)
• Organization skills (logging test data, storing parts, keeping an inventory list)
• Working in tight spaces for extended periods of time
• Working in confined spaces
• Standing for extended periods of time
• Working on raised platforms
• High voltage systems (above 10 kV)
• UHV Vacuum systems
• Electronics assembly, soldering
• Electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
• Basic hand and power tools
• Pneumatic systems
• Hydraulic systems
• Cryogenic systems
• MS Office Applications
• Experience with MS Office Applications
• Jira, Confluence (preferable)
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a challenging, dynamic environment
• Ability to cooperate and communicate well with engineering, physics/science, project management and procurement groups
• May require some shift work on evenings and weekends and/or being on-call for off-hour support

Education:

• Required Education: High school diploma
• Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree
