Job Description

QuitCarbon is looking for a Product Designer to help millions of homeowners transition onto clean, electric energy. As a Product Designer, you will play a critical role designing innovative user experiences that help guide and motivate homeowners on their electrification journey. You will be responsible for performing user research, designing and implementing intuitive user interfaces, product copywriting, and collaborating closely with Product and Engineering.

The Impact You'll Have:

Our product designs need to support a diverse set of customer personas, from climate-conscious homeowners shopping for Tesla Powerwalls to cost-conscious homeowners with leaking boilers to the electricians and plumbers that roll trucks to their homes. As part of our team, you will get exposure to a wide variety of experiences and responsibilities, including the opportunity to:

  • Design and develop wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity prototypes across all aspects of the homeowner/customer journey.
  • Design a frictionless homeowner onboarding experiences, as we take the confusing and complicated process of understanding home appliances and energy consumption and make it easy.
  • Write the copy for our “Electrification Plans”, the action-oriented roadmap documents that homeowners use to guide them through multiple electrification projects, ensuring they make the most impactful home upgrades and can save money and the planet while doing it.
  • Perform usability testing, customer interviews, and other user research to understand customers’ motivation to transition off fossil fuels and their pain points along the way. Use the results to guide your own design decisions and to influence the rest of our roadmap.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure designs are implemented to specifications. Most importantly, you will get to use your amazing design skills to help tackle the climate crisis! # What We Look For:
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Design, with a strong focus on UX and usability.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • A passion for simplifying complex concepts (like, say, “what is the amperage in your subpanel?”) and making daunting tasks (like “now go take a picture of it”) approachable and intuitive.
  • Excellent product copywriting skills. Our primary product deliverable is an action-oriented written Plan, so nailing the copy is critical. (Think prose that simultaneously technical yet approachable, comprehensive but easily consumable).
  • A data-driven mindset, particularly when designing workflows to motivate consumers and push them through a conversion funnel.
  • Experience working in a variety of user interfaces and modalities, not just desktop web. Examples may include email, SMS, video, camera, or print.
  • Comfort with ambiguity! There is no playbook to follow as we’re pulling the future forward. A successful designer will have the ability to prioritize and make product design decisions independently.
  • Experience with modern user research methods, conducting customer interviews, and performing usability testing.
  • Experience with energy, climate, or marketplaces a plus.
  • A passion for solving the climate crisis!
