Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Cathode Development Engineer to join our passionate team in Västerås.
In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon-free society.
Are you ready to take on a challenge that will shape the future of energy? We are looking for a Cathode Development Engineer to join our team at Northvolt in Sweden. As the member of the Cathode Development unit, you will have the opportunity to build a team from scratch and scale our operations to new heights.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing industrialized cathode material for Li-ion batteries. You will work closely with the Process and Quality teams to ensure our cathode material meets the highest standards.
We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of inorganic chemistry and cathode material for Li-ion batteries. You should have a proven track record of driving large and innovative development projects in this field.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Carry out experiments to optimise the performance of Northvolt's in-house precursor and Cathode Active Material (CAM), encompassing both the chemical composition and the processing parameters used in the various manufacturing steps.
- Ensure material preparation and characterization including external material benchmark. Analyse materials characterisation and electrochemical data to evaluate the performance of different CAM samples.
- Ensure delivery of development progress for following-up team’s objectives (e.g., milestones)
- Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between customers and Northvolt's internal stakeholders
- Support industrial-scale CAM manufacturing and recycling operations through targeted investigations and deep-dives.
