Overview

At Noon Energy, we're harnessing innovation to pave the way for a sustainable energy future by developing long duration energy storage systems that champion a 100% renewable vision. Our foundation is built not only on technological advancements but also on fostering a diverse and collaborative work environment.

Noon Energy is seeking a System Modeling Engineer, who will design, evaluate and optimize a system’s model of Noon Energy’s novel Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) device. Candidates with experience in early-stage startups are encouraged to apply, especially candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in the hardtech climate space. We are looking for a team-player who is passionate about our mission in sustainability and wants to work in a fast-paced collaborative startup environment.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of Noon Energy’s systems model continued development and optimization.
  • Communicate with the engineering team and manage new developments and engineering specifications from systems models and to validate the models.
  • Work with suppliers to incorporate actual efficiency and economics data for pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, separators and other relevant hardware into systems models.
  • Ensure fast feedback loop of system designs with engineering timelines.
  • Effectively communicate and document discoveries and processes.

Experience & Skills Sought

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proficiency in systems modeling approach and software usage (ASPEN).
  • Experience and knowledge of engineering specifications for pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, separators and other related systems.
  • Data driven attention to details while maintaining high-level focus on the goals.
  • Ability to handle a large variety of tasks and eager to learn and adjust while doing the job.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (written and orally) with the engineering team.
  • Analytical abilities outside of process modeling, including engineering and multiphysics calculations.

Nice to Have

  • Previous work at startups or early-stage companies.
  • Proficient using multiphysics modeling software (COMSOL, ANSYS or similar).
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis, e.g. Six Sigma certified.
  • Familiarity with Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Knowledge of and experience with programming languages, e.g. Python.

Location

This is an in-office role that is on site four days per week minimum. Our office is located in Mountain view, CA.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $190,000. We are committed to equitable compensation and we offer a generous benefits package to make sure you have the support you need. We cover 90% of the premiums for our employees and 70% of the premiums for their dependents on our base plans for medical, dental, and vision insurance. We provide a 401(k) plan with matching in addition to many other benefits. Every employee, regardless of gender identity or expression, is eligible for 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
