Job Description

Funded by Erasmus+, Empowering Youth through Environmental Storytelling (EYES) is a joint two-year project between News Decoder (France), The Climate Academy (Belgium) and Superfluous (Netherlands). It will address the lack of resources and limited strategies for schools to integrate climate change education into their teaching.

In the first phase, the project partners will create learning materials to build climate literacy and multimedia storytelling skills. They will underpin a suite of inclusive, accessible, self-guided teaching and learning resources to be piloted in eight partner schools in Europe and beyond. The materials will be refined throughout the pilot based on user feedback. The final phase will focus on the production and dissemination of a final set of teaching and learning materials.

--

The Program Manager will work with the News Decoder, Climate Academy and Superfluous teams to support the successful development and implementation of the project.

What you’ll do:

Lead the production and development of educational training resources (written guides, lesson plans and video shorts) focused on journalism principles, shaping a climate story and climate podcasting. Support collaborative student journalism across borders with written guides, video guides and lesson plans. (40%)

Serve as News Decoder’s primary liaison for pilot schools. Lead the implementation of training activities on journalistic principles, writing and podcasting; coordinate cross-border media production; and design the monitoring and evaluation strategy. (35%)

Contribute to teacher professional development activities. Oversee the production of a podcast about improving climate change education pedagogy and create a project blog sharing global news about climate change education with guest blogs from participating teachers. (15%)

Support project management, administrative and monitoring activities as needed. (10%)

What you’ll bring:

Journalism experience, whether as a reporter in a newsroom, as an editor, a podcaster — you know how to tell a compelling story.

Training experience in an educational setting — you understand the needs of educators and how to create useful and usable learning materials, with some knowledge of monitoring and evaluation processes.

A passion for climate education that empowers young people to be agents of change.

Knowledge of educational networks and school marketing approaches an advantage.

Project management and organisational skills.

Communication skills.

An ability to work independently, within a team and across diverse stakeholders.

Proficiency with content management systems like WordPress, email marketing software, video production, graphic design and social media.
