# Fast Facts Application deadline: June 30th 2023 Target start date: September 2023 Location: Hybrid with co-working space in Clerkenwell, London, UK / UK remote considered Hours: Full time with core hours 10am - 4pm Origination: New role Language: English Salary range: 80-100k + generous share options # Job description Kestrix seeks a Machine Learning Engineer to be the first full time team member dedicated to developing our computer vision and building analysis algorithms, reporting to technical co-founder [Matt](http://linkedin.com/in/mattgoodridge). There is opportunity for this role to evolve into one of technical team leadership and / or research leadership  as the team grows. # Who we’re looking for A successful candidate is a self-starter, passionate about applying their skills to solve the urgent problem of building decarbonisation in a fast paced and dynamic startup environment. The new team member will work closely with the founders ([Lucy](http://linkedin.com/in/lucy-lyons) and [Matt](http://linkedin.com/in/mattgoodridge)) to shape early technical direction, product design and company culture. # Responsibilities - Take ownership of the end-to-end development and implementation of computer vision and predictive machine learning algorithms and models for the Rapid Thermal Performance Assessment (RaThPAS) system, ensuring accuracy, performance, and scalability. - Provide technical expertise and guidance in areas such as machine learning model selection, feature engineering, data preprocessing, and evaluation metrics. - Collaborate with technical co-founder and others in the engineering team to define and refine the overall platform architecture, including data processing pipelines, model training and deployment strategies, and integration and deployment with the wider data platform. - Drive the exploration and implementation of advanced machine learning techniques and algorithms to enhance the performance and capabilities of the RaThPA system, such as deep learning, convolutional neural networks, prediction neural networks.. - Oversee the development of data preprocessing and feature engineering pipelines to ensure high-quality, reliable, and scalable data inputs for machine learning models. - Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, following industry-standard software engineering practices. - Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of the software, identifying and resolving any issues or bugs that arise. - Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders, including research institutions and industry experts, to foster strategic partnerships and stay at the forefront of machine learning advancements and applications in the energy efficiency domain. - Mentor junior members of the team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and a collaborative work environment. - Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the business goals and objectives of Kestrix, aligning machine learning strategies and initiatives to support and drive these objectives forward. - Conduct research and stay up to date with the latest advancements and trends in machine learning, thermal imaging, and related fields, leveraging this knowledge to enhance Kestrix's technologies and stay ahead. # Your Qualifications *Critical requirements* - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. - 5+ years of software development in a commercial business - Extensive experience in developing and implementing machine learning algorithms and models in computer vision or image analysis applications. - Strong programming skills in Python, and experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) for model development, training, and evaluation. - Proven track record of leading and managing machine learning projects, including successful delivery of complex solutions on time and within budget. - Solid understanding of fundamental machine learning concepts, techniques, and algorithms, as well as their practical applications in real-world scenarios, including convolutional neural networks for segmentation and classification, and predictive neural networks. - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to challenging machine learning problems. - Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and lead a team towards achieving common goals. - Experience with software development tools and practices, including version control (e.g. Github), Agile methodologies, and issue tracking systems (e.g. Jira). *Nice to haves* - PhD in computer vision, image machine learning - Knowledge of building physics, thermodynamics concepts. - Knowledge of 3D geometry, computer graphics, 3D computer vision techniques. - Experience training, deploying and operating ML models in Google Cloud Platform. - Understanding and experience of using CI/CD processes and tools. # Benefits - 25 days paid time off – plus all UK bank holidays, the week between Christmas Day and New Years (with flexibility to shift for those of non-Christian religious backgrounds), and a day off on your birthday. - Remote working, always with the option to join us at our co-working space in London. - Generous share options program. - Pension contributions (3% of salary). - Flexible working outside core working hours. - Optional monthly team socials. # About Us Kestrix is building the data platform to power the built environment’s climate transition. We’re starting by using mass-thermal-image-capture (think: drones) and AI to construct 3D heat loss models of buildings that reveal retrofit opportunities in seconds – streamlining planning, prioritisation, and verification of retrofits for hundreds of buildings at a time. Kestrix is at pre-seed stage, funded by Carbon 13 and currently closing an angel investment round.
