Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes and milling machines to machine metallic and nonmetallic workpieces by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances
  • Follows tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut
  • Selects, positions, and secures tool in toolholder (chuck, collet, or tool post)
  • Positions and secures workpiece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures
  • Moves controls to position tool and workpiece in relation to each other
  • Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and turns handwheel to feed tool to workpiece or vice versa, and engages feed
  • Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and workpiece
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined workpiece to specifications
  • Sets up and operates machines
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, decimals, and shop math to practical situations
  • G-Code knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others

Physical Conditions

  • Remaining in a stationary position or often standing
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 25 pounds in all directions
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Operating heavy equipment or machinery
  • Use hand tools

Environmental Conditions

  • Noisy environments
  • Odors or fumes from chemicals or chemical reactions
  • Accessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • High-concentration, demanding and fast-paced

Safety and PPE

  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
  • Manipulating, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

Certification

  • Capable of obtaining forklift and boom lift certification
