Job Description

Hoofprint Biome is a venture-backed start-up that is leveraging biotechnology to avert the climate crisis. We are engineering enzymes and probiotics to eliminate methane emissions from cattle while also improving animal health and productivity. We believe that cattle are a key pillar of sustainable agriculture and human nutrition, and eliminating their methane emissions will enable transformative progress in the fight against climate change.

We’re looking for a Laboratory Technician who is passionate about animal, human, and planetary health. We are looking for someone who thrives as a facilitator—someone who ensures our research team can focus on breakthrough discoveries by keeping the lab running smoothly and efficiently. The best candidates will enjoy problem-solving, organizing, and supporting scientific innovation in many forms. If you’re passionate about being the backbone of cutting-edge biotechnology, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform basic molecular biology techniques, such as DNA purification, qPCR, western blotting, bacterial culture and gel electrophoresis
  • Prepare buffers, plates, reagents and stock solutions according to experimental protocols
  • Ensure all lab areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
  • Sterilize lab materials using autoclaves, including glassware, equipment, and consumables
  • Maintain scientific equipment
  • Lab waste disposal, including hazardous and biological waste
  • Manage laboratory inventory
  • Assist other researchers preparing and executing experiments

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in microbiology, molecular biology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, animal science, or a related field is preferred
  • Experience in a laboratory setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with basic lab equipment, aseptic techniques, and safety protocols is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically active tasks (e.g., carrying equipment, standing for extended periods)
  • A team player who thrives on facilitating smooth operations and solving problems before they escalate
  • Commitment to collaboration and fostering a team-oriented culture
  • Curiosity, intention, tenacity, and accountability to the mission
  • Must love cows.

We offer competitive salary and benefits include health, vision, dental, life insurance, and 401(k). We value diversity in thought from people with all types of experiences, ethnicities, talents, ages, and ideas, and we especially encourage candidates from minority and disadvantaged groups to apply.
