Job Description

Your role
We are hiring for 2 dedicated and experienced Product Owners to join our Product function. As part of the Applications team Product Owners will work alongside an Energy Product Expert/SME and collaborate closely with the team leads and product manager. Product Owners will play a critical role in product discovery, defining and prioritizing product features, ensuring alignment with business goals, taking an agile and iterative approach to feature development. Preferred candidates will have experience within a software product team, extra points for experience within the EnergyTech sector or with energy retailers.
Key responsibilities
- Product Backlog Management (20-30%)
- Define and prioritise the product backlog, ensuring it aligns with the overall product strategy and business objectives.
- Collaborate with the Team Lead/Product Manager to refine and update the backlog based on changing requirements and market conditions.
- Clearly communicate the backlog items to the development team, ensuring they understand the requirements and priorities.
Product Discovery and Stakeholder Collaboration (20-30%)
- Work closely with the Energy Product Experts to incorporate domain-specific insights into the product development process.
- Actively participate in discovery sessions to gather and organise feedback from stakeholders and validate new features; including customers, internal teams, and market research, to inform product decisions.
- Ensure that stakeholder needs and expectations are accurately represented in the product backlog.
Sprint Planning, User Testing and Execution (Scrum Management) (20-30%)
- Lead sprint planning sessions, ensuring the development team has a clear understanding of the sprint goals and backlog items.
- Participate in user acceptance testing, providing feedback and ensuring that the final product meets user expectations and is free of defects.
- Monitor the progress of the development team, addressing any impediments or blockers that arise during the sprint.
- Conduct sprint reviews and retrospectives to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
- Present internal demos or support with their preparation
- Requirement Definition and User Stories (5-15%)
- Write clear, concise, and detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements for the development team.
- Ensure that user stories are well-defined and ready for development, with all necessary details and dependencies identified.
- Collaborate with the development team to refine and clarify requirements as needed.
Product Vision and Roadmap (5-10%)
- Assist the Head of Applications/Product Manager in defining and communicating the product vision and roadmap to the team and stakeholders.
- Ensure that the product development efforts are aligned with the long-term vision and goals of the company
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field>
- 3-5 years of experience as a Product Owner or in a similar role within a software development environment.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile teams.
- Knowledge of software engineering principles and practices (coding is not part of this role)
- Proven ability to manage and prioritise a product backlog, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into actionable user stories.
- Preferred: Experience working in the energytech sector or with energy retailers.
