Job Description
Are you ready to rise to the challenge of climate change with the team that will deliver? Form Energy is a U.S. technology and manufacturing company that is developing and commercializing pioneering energy storage technologies to enable the electric grid to run on 100% renewable energy, every day of the year.
Supported by leading investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, ArcelorMittal, TPG Rise, MIT’s The Engine, and others, we share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage is the key to enable tomorrow’s zero carbon electric grid. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the challenge of climate change. Do you want to work with us today to build a better tomorrow?
Role Description

It is invaluable in further developing and scaling our electrode process to deliver and advance Form Energy’s long-term production aligned with our technology roadmap.
We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and hands-on materials engineer to work in a manufacturing environment and collaborate cross-functionally to define, select, and verify materials to increase cell production yield, performance, and lifetime. You will identify processes and procedures for the planning and execution phases of product intent design dissections, conduct root cause analysis efforts and maintain a robust FMEA through the collection of empirical data.
Your materials characterization experience and creativity will allow you to solve challenging problems, an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling and delivering the product of our utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. Come join us and be part of a sustainable future!
This opportunity is based out of Form Energy's Eighty Four, PA location (Greater Pittsburgh Area).
What You'll Do:
- Partner with the cathode cell development and battery design teams to help validate full-scale electrode production processes
- Explore the materials property relationships that drive electrode performance
- Specify, execute, and interpret experiments to quantify electrochemical performance, and bridge the gap between R&D and product devices on our pilot production line; Develop requirements for materials processing as part of the manufacturing process
- Partner with test team to wrangle data from test stands and electrochemical cells to correlate materials characterization and performance data
- Champion for safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes and cell designs
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in materials characterization, ideally in a manufacturing or NPI environment
- Experience using statistical methods for making process development decisions and software such as JMP
- Experience with analytical materials characterization methods and QC testing and process validation
- Comfortable independently advancing experiments from conception through data analysis with a high level of attention to detail
- Well-developed communication skills collaborating with a group of peers and broader organization and the ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
