Job Description

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit agricultural research for development organization with partners in over 100 countries.

CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Senior Specialist, Integrated Development to Follow up on projects and ideas by developing supporting and operating documents and supports and works closely with the Chief of Staff and Program Manager.

The position is based at CIMMYT’s campus in Texcoco, State of Mexico, located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico.

Specific Duties:

  • Support and/or follow up on identification, development and implementation of projects, strategies, and models for CIMMYT, to engage in scaling integrated projects methodologies.
  • Apply strategic planning methods and work with a variety of stakeholders to develop strategic documents aligned with integrated projects.
  • Follow up on projects from their inception by reviewing the concept notes, proposals, budgets, and operating documents as necessary; to their implementation.
  • Synthesizes and integrates information as needed for the development and replicability of new concepts and ideas.
  • Identifies areas of cooperation and opportunities for the initiation of new projects.
  • Analyze data and identify data quality issues and respond to request for specific information with staff and/or collaborators as needed.
  • Generate strategies, guidelines and formats for planning and supporting functions within the program and for project proposals.
  • Gather, analyze, and share information on intelligence and global, regional and national trends, including country priorities as well as other relevant details.
  • Contribute analytical information and funder intelligence to support the development of new business lines.
  • Contributes to ensure that the “best practices” identified across the project portfolio are being successfully disseminated and implemented as needed.
  • Other activities proposed by the direct supervisor

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, International Relations, Sustainable Development or related fields.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in public policy, sustainable development, or a related field, with demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive information and stakeholder negotiations.
  • Proficient in English, including excellent written / oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced internet skills.
  • Strong level of cultural sensitivity to understand the needs of all staff and partners
  • High level of responsibility, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Ability to work with different nationalities, under pressure and as a member of diverse work team.
  • Availability to travel.
  • The selected candidate must exhibit the following competencies: Organization, Critical thinking, Teamwork, Client Orientation, Problem Solving decision making, Negotiation and Conflict resolution.
