Job Description

As a Content Development Specialist at CIMMYT, your role will revolve around creating compelling and impactful content across various platforms, including advocacy materials, media content, written documents, and translations. You will be responsible for developing engaging and informative content that effectively communicates CIMMYT's mission, research findings, and impact to diverse audiences. Your work will involve writing, editing, translating, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality content delivery.
The position is based at CIMMYT’s campus in Texcoco, State of Mexico, located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico.
Main activities of this position are:
- Content Strategy and Planning: Collaborate with the communications team to develop content strategies aligned with CIMMYT's objectives. Contribute to the development of communication plans for advocacy and media outreach initiatives.
- Advocacy Content Development: Create persuasive and targeted advocacy materials, including reports, policy briefs, articles, op-eds, and speeches. Effectively communicate CIMMYT's research findings, innovations, and policy recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Media Content Creation: Develop engaging content for media channels, such as press releases, news articles, feature stories, and interviews. Craft compelling narratives that highlight CIMMYT's impact, research breakthroughs, and human-interest stories.
- Writing and Editing: Produce high-quality written content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Write and edit a variety of materials, including website content, blog posts, social media updates, newsletters, and scientific reports.
- Translation Services: Provide translation support, ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate translations of written materials between English and other languages. This includes scientific reports, press releases, policy briefs, and other communication resources.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with researchers, scientists, and subject matter experts to gather information and develop content. Collaborate with the communications team, graphic designers, and multimedia specialists to ensure integrated content delivery.
- Quality Control and Proofreading: Review and proofread written materials to maintain high editorial standards. Ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to CIMMYT's style guidelines.
- Audience Analysis: Understand and analyze target audiences to tailor content appropriately. Adapt messages and writing styles for different audiences, including policymakers, donors, media outlets, farmers, and the public.
- Branding and Messaging: Consistently adhere to CIMMYT's brand guidelines and messaging frameworks. Maintain a strong focus on conveying CIMMYT's key messages and positioning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, languages, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Proven experience in content development, advocacy, media, writing, editing, and translation.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong storytelling abilities and the capability to transform complex scientific information into engaging content.
- Proficiency in English and at least one other language, with exceptional translation skills.
- Familiarity with agricultural research, development issues, or related fields is advantageous.
- Experience in working with media outlets, journalists, and managing media relations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Proficiency in digital content management systems, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in English (advanced level is a must)
